Fast paced world's parents, teachers and schools have forgotten or ignored the values of holistic education on ground however Holistic education is being used multiple times by all the schools. Main focus is solely on academic excellence, overlooking the importance of values and ethics. Education should encompass the holistic development of a student be it intellectually, emotionally or spiritually. Talking about lessons from Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta and Ramayan seems to be against the modern education. It is time we should reintroduce Bhartiya values in our educational system, grounding young minds in the timeless wisdom of our rich cultural heritage.
As the Bhagavad Gita beautifully states:
विद्या विनय संपन्ने ब्राह्मणे गवि हस्तिनि। शुनि चैव श्वपाके च पण्डिताः समदर्शिनः॥
"The wise see with equal vision a learned and gentle Brahmana, a cow, an elephant, a dog, and even everyone."
This teaches the profound value of equality and respect for all life forms. In the current world where castes are dividing us and it is very much reaching to children as well through social media, these teachings remind us of the importance of compassion, humility, and acceptance.
Similarly, the Ramcharitmanas reminds us:
परहित सरिस धर्म नहिं भाई। पर पीड़ा सम नहिं अधमाई॥
There is no greater religion than serving others, and there is no sin worse than causing harm to others be it anyone from any caste or creed.
Incorporating such values into our school curriculum can help instill empathy, selflessness, and a sense of duty towards society. The wisdom from these texts can shape students not just into successful professionals but into responsible, ethical, and compassionate citizens.
By including the Bhartiya values in our educational system, we can guide our students toward becoming individuals who value not just personal success but also the welfare of others. Let us create an environment where knowledge meets wisdom, and education aligns with ethics.
